Getting on top of TikTok

Getting on top of TikTok

Helen Cox Marketing Consultant London Kent UKIt seems like there are always new social media or content sharing apps developed. Which then means that you have to get to grips with it and work out how best to use it as a part of your marketing efforts. The latest offering is TikTok.

TikTok is a platform that allows you to create short video content (often to music or background tracks) which can then be uploaded for all your followers. And hopefully, the rest of the world to enjoy.

TikTok can be a lot of fun. But whilst it is great for dancing and making people smile, it is also a useful marketing tool. Not sure how or where to start? Here’s my guide on how to get on top of TikTok for marketing your business.

Know the TikTok trends

What is trending is key when it comes to TikTok. New content is updated daily and will be discovered either via a hashtag, (much like other social media platforms). Or the song or sound effect that it features. Whilst it is great to be original in marketing, on TikTok it makes a whole lot of sense to find out what is trending and make sure that you surf on that trend.

Make the meme fit your brand

The meme culture is another key and these memes are a great way to appeal if you are trying to target a younger market. This works even better if a phrase, dance, song or message actually fits in with your brand and the type of marketing that you are trying to put in place for your business.

Put a face to your name

As people, we connect much better with brands that we see on a human level. This can be hard to achieve, but seeing as TikTok is based around video content, this really helps you to show that you are more than just a brand. You can create the videos, or get members of your team to make them and this will help you to appeal to your audience more.

Be inspired

Whilst you want to stand out from the crowd, the nature of TikTok means that you can take inspiration from other users. This could be individuals or other brands that you follow. Whilst you should try and put your own spin on their videos, it is great to feel inspired by what they are doing and make your own offering.

Never forget the tags

As we have already mentioned, a key part of TikTok is the tags that you use. This means that you should always make sure that you think about your tags. Whilst much of the activity will come through the songs or sound effects that you use, it is also a good idea to think about the hashtags that you add to your videos as this will help you to gain more of an audience.

TikTok might take some getting used to, but we can promise you that it is worth trying out. Check out what is online, make your own offerings and above everything else, have some fun. That is, after all, what TikTok is all about.
