Why your marketing plan for 2020 shouldn’t just be social media

Social media is big business and it is also big for business too but your marketing plan shouldnt just be social media.

Social media has become something that people around the world look at each and every day.  This has meant that more and more businesses are learning about the value of social media when it comes to their marketing plans.

It is no secret that social media is a powerful form of marketing and it is one that should definitely appear on your marketing plan. However, we believe that during 2020 the time is right to make sure that social media isn’t the be all and end all of your plans.

But why is this? What are the main reasons that you shouldn’t focus on social media only in your marketing plan and start to branch out as much as you can?

Social media is not your own space

Whilst it is a useful space for you to use, it is important to remember that social media is not a space that is owned by you. A website, in comparison, is a space that you own, that is yours to change and mould as you need to. You are in charge of building your website and you can make sure that it looks the way that you want it to.

Social media is a fleeting post that will disappear after a short while, but a website is permanent, it is something that is always going to be there for you and for your brand.

So what improvements or updates do you need to do to your website that you can include in your 2020 Marketing plans?

Social media can change and there is nothing that you can do about it

Finding that your social media is working perfectly for you and for your business? If it is then this is great news and you are likely to want to stick to the things that you are doing. 

So, what would happen if you go to log in one morning and everything has changed? Let’s face it most channels like to do an algorithm change every now and then and what was working well for you now, might not be. This is likely to be bad news for you as a business, and the worst part is, there is nothing that you can do about it. 

It can take up plenty of time

You can post on social media and hope that it does its job, but the main reason that any business is going to need to use social media is for engagement. Your network is going to want to make sure that they see interesting and unique content that gives them value, which means that you are going to need to work hard at sharing things and then making sure that people read them.

It is hard to stand out

One of the last reasons that social media shouldn’t be the main focus of your marketing plan, is that it is noisy and crowded. As a business you are going to want to stand out as much as you can and when there is a crowd that you are battling against, things can be even harder.

We are not saying that you should disregard social media marketing completely, but what you should do is think about other approaches that you should take when it comes to getting your brand out there.

    1. Every plan is different but I would look at creating a holistic marketing plan for your business looking at the different marketing channels your target audience use. Social media may well be one of them but it shouldn’t be the only thing that you do. I have a couple of blog and vlogs on how to write a marketing plan 🙂
