Getting the right marketing team in place

Getting the right marketing team in place

Hi everyone, and welcome to my video series. Today I wanted to talk to you about getting the right people in place to implement your marketing.

So when I work with clients, they tend to be smaller firms that don’t have a marketing and BD function, and I come in as their interim marketing director and help them with strategy and planning.

But one of the key questions that I get asked is how are we going to implement that? And there are a number of different ways to do it. So when we’re talking about implementation, we might be talking about social media, we might be talking about uploading blog posts, we might be talking about outsourcing.

What are the options when it comes to a small firm’s marketing team?

Recruitment

So for me, we could either recruit somebody into the business if they’ve got a budget, making sure that we have a really robust job description and we understand exactly what they need to do, especially if it’s the firm’s marketing and BD role.

Upskill a member of the team

There might be somebody in the firm that’s really interested in marketing. In fact, I have that with one of my clients at the moment, and then I work with them to train them up and coach them in terms of marketing and bd. And you’ve already got that resource in place, but there just needs to be an upskilling there.

Bringing on a VA for marketing administration tasks

If some of the marketing and BD is quite simple, and I don’t mean this in a negative way at all, we might look at bringing a virtual assistant on and helping you kind of get those simplistic tasks done quickly and efficiently.

Outsourcing tasks to experts

And the last thing to think about is outsourcing some of the work. So one of the biggest challenges that my clients have is they don’t have time to write content blogs articles, that kind of thing. If we can find a specialist, copywriter or content writer, that’s great because that takes the pressure off again, if there’s budget to do that.

But I’m a big fan of doing a recruit in. Is that what we need? Can we train somebody up or do we outsource particular parts of the marketing? It’s all different according to what the client needs, but it’s worth thinking about when you’re looking at taking on a marketing planning and strategy exercise because you can do it and then the marketing plan might just sit in the drawer.

How do we implement it? How do we get the right people in place? So there’s just a couple of options to think about. If you are thinking about bringing on marketing and bd team, how you would implement that in the firm.
