Cracking those case studies
Hi everybody and welcome to my Wednesday wisdom series. Today I thought I would touch upon case studies. A lot of the websites that I look at when I’m doing marketing reviews or writing marketing plans, don’t tend to have a case study section and I wanted to just show you that that can be quite useful.
Why should you have case studies?
Case studies help to paint a picture on your website of what you actually do for somebody. So you know, you can list your services and what you do, but there’s nothing better than bringing it all to life than with a case study or a story telling people what you do and how you help because it actually helps people to visualize it rather than just using jargon terms put together to create a service.
Case studies are brilliant because you can put them on your website and then when people are looking around and trying to find out a little bit more about you, they will go to your case study section.And then I can actually understand a little bit more about the actual work that you do.
When it comes to writing case studies, a lot of people don’t know where to start. I don’t know how to write them. I was always taught to write in the acronym of STAR. And what this means is it’s a way of kind of working through a case study and how to write it. So the s of the star stands for situation, the t stands for what was the actual task, the a stands for, what action did you did you take? And r stands for what was the actual result. So working through that acronym for any case study that you have can help give you a bit of structure and help you write it. So if you haven’t written any case studies then that’s a good way of putting them together.
Once you’ve written that, as I mentioned before, you can put that on your website. You can actually break it down into little video snippets and put it on social media. You can put it on Linkedin, you can put it into groups and share that case study with people. So content is great, such as case studies because it brings it all to life and you can put it out amongst your channels and it’s also not that hard to get a new section added to your website for case studies either. I think a lot of people are put off because they think, oh, I need to spend a lot of money on website development. But usually it’s just a new template and it can be quite worthwhile because when I was looking at my Google analytics for the last month, I actually saw that quite a lot of people visited my case studies page. Which is why I wanted to kind of bring it to your attention because people do look and are interested in what you do.
So if you haven’t got a case done and you haven’t started writing them yet, I definitely would recommend that you do that. So I hope you found that helpful. Until next time, bye for now.
