Building relationships: Collaborators
Building relationships: Collaborators
Hi everyone and welcome to my video series. So over the last couple of months, I’ve been talking about developing relationships. And today I wanted to talk to you about how to develop relationships with what I call your collaborators. Collaborators are not clients, they are people that may refer work to you. They may work in the same industry as you or they may work with similar clients. And they’re very, very important to start to think about.
I’ve met many of my collaborators through networking, such as copywriters, web developers, legal PR consultants. And it’s a symbiotic relationship in that they refer work to me and I can refer work to them. Developing relationships with these people are very, very important because they are experts and they may get asked by their clients who do you know that does X, Y, and Z. I develop my relationships with my collaborators by making sure I keep in touch with them regularly.
I have a list of around 20 to 30 people that I really want to make sure that I keep in touch with.
My suggestion to you would be to have a look at the people that you know, that might be able to refer work to you and start to develop those relationships. It’s not a case of meeting a person once and thinking they’re going to refer work to you. It just doesn’t work like that. It’s very much about building up trust.
So keep on plugging away at the people that you really want to work with, and that might be good referrers for you because ultimately it will benefit both of you. Hopefully you found that useful. If you like my videos, please do like, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
