What’s up doc? Boring Presentations…That’s what!
Presentations are something that has been around for some time. People have always stood up in front of their peers in order to motivate them, encourage them, inspire them and of course educate them.
The trouble with presentations is that they are not always the most interesting thing to watch. Which is a real shame when you have an important or emotional story to tell or share. It makes sense that you want to try your best to make your presentation a little bit more impressive.
To help you out, I’ve put together our guide on how you can make sure that your presentation is one that makes people sit up and take notice of what you have to say.
Think about the beginning, middle and the end of your presentations
When you think of a great story you will know that they have a beginning, middle and an end. A presentation is essentially a story and therefore, you will want to make sure that you tell it the best that you can. Consider the beginning, the middle and the end too. Set the scene, explain the characters or the problem that needs to be solved. Showcase the middle of the story, the solution or path that is recommended in order to change things and of course never forget the end, hopefully with a positive outcome.
Never forget emotion in your presentations
It can be hard to convey emotion when you are tackling a business presentation, however, it is not impossible and it can be really worth doing. Emotions make people want to act, so, when you are presenting a problem, link it to a way that someone may feel, as well as how the solution makes them feel too. You should also try your best to use images and videos as much as you can, as they are definitely stronger than words.
Just talk from the heart
You need to make sure that you prepare and plan your presentation in order for it to be met well, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t speak from the heart. Be passionate about what you are trying to say, after all, it is likely to be something that you believe in and that you want others to as well.
Minimal Information
We have all heard death by PowerPoint. Well, this is usually due to the fact there are reems and reems of slides with many boring bullets. Keep the information on your slides to a minimum, use graphics or images to keep things interesting. If you put all your content on your slides, people will read your slides and not listen to you. It’s that simple!
Presentations don’t have to be yawn-inducing. Want to make sure that you keep people’s attention? Well, make it interesting, make it human and make it something that speaks to them. We can promise you that in no time at all, you will have an audience who is going to listen to you intently.
