Blogging for your law firm- do you know where to start?
Blog posts are something that prove to be incredibly valuable to marketing within any industry and this is definitely true for law firms. However, it seems that law firms are guilty of not taking advantage of the power of blogging and instead, letting it pass them by.
It might be because they are simply too busy. Or it might be because they are worried that the sometimes complicated nature of law can pass over the heads of their potential clients.
No matter what the reason for not blogging, the time has come for your law firm to get into this world. Here are my top tips for making sure that you get off to the best start possible!
Everything has a purpose when blogging
One of the most important things to think about when it comes to your blog post is why you are actually writing it. Are you trying to promote a service? Are you sharing some news? Or perhaps you are trying to link some keywords and landing pages? Whatever the purpose of the blog, it is important that you identify this as early as you can. And make sure that you add value. People need to have fulfilled the ‘so what’ question once they have read it.
Know what you write and write what you know
Most law firms will have a specialist niche that they will work within. So, it makes sense that when you are stuck for blog post topics that you think about what you know. Not only is this an area that you are going to feel comfortable to write about. But it is also likely to be a reason that your clients come to you in the first place. After all, you are experts. Also, think about the typical questions clients come to you with – always an easy start when you are struggling to find a topic to go with.
Solve a problem
Another important thing to think about when you are putting together a blog post is that it should serve a purpose. It should be helpful to the person reading it. It could be helpful by pointing out a service that they need (and that you offer). Or it could be helpful in the sense that it will offer a solution to a problem that they have. Many people will read a blog post because they want an answer to something. The good thing about being a law firm, is that the answer to many people’s problems is that they are going to need to come to you!
Stand out when blogging
There are likely to be lots of things that are “trending” when it comes to the content shared by your fellow law firms. It is okay to be inspired by these events. Seasons and of course, trends. But not to the detriment of your message. It is really key that you do your best to stand out. Sure, it is a smart thing to look at what is popular and theme your blog posts around that. But you need to ensure that you have your own offerings, your own viewpoints and your own fresh take on the subject.
Blogging can be daunting, particularly if you are not used to writing. However, it is a key part of marketing your law firm and ensuring that you appeal to clients over others out there!
